Cleaning and Sterilising Bottles

Cleaning and sterilising your baby’s bottles and teats can seem overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be complicated.

A baby’s immune system is much weaker than older kids and adults when they’re born. Not being able to fight off infections can be an issue if there are residual bacteria in a baby’s bottle and teat.

This is why it’s essential to follow the proper steps to effectively clean and sterilise your baby’s feeding bottles and bottle accessories.

Cleaning bottles and teats

With the right equipment, cleaning your baby’s bottles and teats is a simple process.

After every feed, ensure you wash all items in hot, soapy water. If you’re unable to clean the bottles and teats tight away, rinse them off with water.

A bottle brush is the first thing you need to get started. The brush head should have nylon bristles for a deep clean. The handle will also usually include a smaller brush for cleaning teats and other smaller parts.

Tip = Using a smaller brush for the teats will reduce the risk of tearing from a larger brush.

The Chicco 3-in-1 Bottle Brush Set is a practical bottle and teat cleaning utensil. Complete with hygienic nylon bristles that adapt to different bottles, the sturdy bristles ensure a whole bottle clean. The handle includes the smaller brush that’s safer for teats. It also detaches and turns into a nifty little set of tongs to maintain hygiene when transferring items from the steriliser.

feeding bottle drying rack is also a great way to store and drain washed bottles and feeding accessories.

Electric Sterilising

Electric steam sterilising is a process defined by raisingchildren.net.au as using automatic units that ‘cook’ your equipment at a temperature high enough to kill bacteria.

An electric steam steriliser is an effective way to sterilise bottles and teats. A safe option for your baby, it won’t impact the quality of the bottles and teats and will eliminate 99.9% of household germs. Plus, as long as the lid stays closed, items can remain sterile for up to 24 hours.

With our 3-in-1 Steam steriliser, you can sterilise your bottles and teats in as little as five minutes (excluding warm-up time). You can also choose from three configurations; full size (up to six Chicco feeding bottles), compact (two 330ml bottles or one breast pump), and microwave (a quick, space-saving size suitable for most microwave ovens).

Microwave Sterilising

Like an electric unit, microwave sterilisers use steam to kill bacteria and can be quicker than electric sterilisers. The Chicco Steam Microwave Steriliser can hold up to five Wellbeing feeding bottles or four Natural Feeling bottles.

Did you know?

You can also place the oh-so-popular Chicco soothers into the Chicco sterilisers.

Bottle cleaning and sterilising are important steps in the bottle feeding arena. It’s not hard and shouldn’t be avoided, especially in the first 12 months of a baby’s life.

Wishing you an easy-peasy lemon squeezy bottle cleaning and sterilising experience!
